What is Video Distill Explain?: Video Distill Explain is a browser-based platform that turns raw educational, training or demo recordings into studio-polished videos with AI-generated narration, slide-aware notes, summaries, and both multiple-choice & essay questions complete with model answers.
Who is it for?: Lecturers, course creators, corporate trainers, software demo engineers—anyone who needs knowledge-dense videos without spending hours in an editor.
Is it really free right now?: Yes. While we’re in public beta you can process unlimited videos at no cost. Your account starts with 100 credits—tap Add 500 Free Credits from the Buy Credits tab whenever your balance drops below 100. We’ll give plenty of notice before paid usage begins (see our Pricing page).
How does the credit system work after the beta?: We run a pay-as-you-go model: buy credits in bulk and spend them whenever you process a video. Each processing step consumes a tiny slice (see the pricing table). Credits do not expire while your account remains active, and there are no monthly fees.
Do my credits expire?: Credits stay on your account indefinitely. If you choose to delete your account—or if the account is inactive for more than six months (our data-retention limit)—any remaining credits will be removed along with your data.
How many credits will my video need?: Typically between 5 and 15 credits per finished minute, but this can vary significantly depending on the video content and on the number of attempts needed to process it.
Which video formats can I upload?: At the moment we support MP4 only. If your file is in another format, please convert it to MP4 first.
How long does processing take?: About half real-time: a 50-minute lecture usually finishes in under 30 minutes. Live progress indicators show each step.
Can I edit the transcript or change the AI voice?: Absolutely. Edit any wording directly or adjust style in Transcription Settings, then click Revoice to generate a new video. English voices are live; multilingual dubbing is coming soon.
How long do you keep my files?: Uploaded content is stored solely for processing and in-app preview. Every time you start processing a new video, all files related to your previous video are deleted automatically.
Is my data secure—and who else sees it?: Your personal data lives in Google Firebase; videos sit on secure Fly.io servers. During processing we send your audio and text to trusted AI providers (e.g., OpenAI, Google Gemini) strictly to deliver the features you request. Do not upload content that contains private, personal or confidential information you wouldn’t be comfortable sharing with those providers. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
